Article - Master's Degree Defined: PhonyDiploma.com

When it comes to (college diplomas), there are four basic types: associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, and the PhD. Most people who are looking to attend a four-year university are attempting to get their bachelor’s degree. In most cases, this degree is designed to help people get a job in the career field they are majoring in. But a master’s degree goes further than that. In most cases, it extends about two to three more years past a bachelor’s degree, so the total years of college education can range from 6 to 8 or more. In addition, it requires that students receive their (college diploma) as a bachelor’s degree first, before they can pursue their master’s.

Getting a master’s degree is a lot more in depth and somewhat more complex than getting an associate’s or a bachelor’s degree. The type of schooling is often different as well. For example, the classes are usually much more complex, with requirements in writing, lecture, and a lot of discussion between the professor and students.

Besides the extra years of schooling, a master’s degree requires a well written thesis. A thesis is a very extended and long research or study related paper that exhibits one’s understanding and knowledge on a particular subject. At almost every university, students have to write their thesis before they can achieve their master’s degree. In many cases the thesis is of a scientific nature, so students have to show the professor that they have a firm grasp and comprehension on their field of study.

Sometimes a thesis involves lab work and other in depth study aside from just a written research paper. Something called a dissertation may also be required. A dissertation is really another word for thesis, but some schools prefer this term. Hard work and long hours of study are often required to complete a thesis, and the entire process can take months. Some students find their graduation time may be delayed if their thesis is too complex or thorough.

In other countries, the master’s degree might be called a “magister.” This is the Latin word for teacher, which means the student is now able to become s teacher and has a firm and solid understanding of their major topic. There is a (college diploma) available for a master’s degree in just about every subject imaginable. Some examples include engineering, arts, nursing, social science, history, business, administration, law, science, and much more.

Employers often prefer those who have earned their master’s degree since they will not only have the knowledge, but also the experience and educational background to do the job. People with a master’s degree are considered experts in their field. Sometimes an internship is also required to earn a master’s since it shows that the student is now capable of performing the duties required within their chosen field. While many different forms of (college diplomas) are helpful in getting people the career of their dreams, the master’s degree is certainly a cut above.
