Some people see high school as four years they must suffer through in order
to be awarded a high school
diploma and start their real life. While high school is a lot of work,
the lessons you learn will not be strictly academic. Here are some ways to make
the most of your time while working towards your high school diploma.
Be a Joiner
Join some clubs, organizations, or teams during your stint in high school.
You will learn new skills, make new friends, and have a lot of fun. Stretch
beyond your comfort zone for an adventure. Remember high school is a new
beginning. If you were not very athletic in middle school, don’t let that
stop you from trying out for the junior varsity football team. Even if you
have never sung in front of an audience, if you dream of being the next Taylor
Swift, then join the choir. Many junior high school organizations have high
school counterparts, so chances are you can continue the activities you enjoyed
in the past.
Stretch Your Mind
High school is a different experience than elementary and middle
school. Instead of simply being assigned the same classes as everyone else,
you will get to pick what you’d like to learn about outside of the core
subjects. Some classes are bound to be a lot of fun and challenge you in
different areas. Drama or public speaking classes can help you to combat
stage fright while having a lot of laughs. The musically inclined will have a
blast in singing or taking on instrumental courses. Taking advanced courses such
as chemistry and trigonometry might not sound like much fun at first, but you
may be surprised, especially if the groups of students in these classes are
small.
Don’t Take Yourself Too Seriously
During your senior year, it can be easy to forget to have fun and enjoy
yourself when you are busy making plans to get your college
diploma. This time of your life is short, and you will regret
letting it pass too quickly by without taking time for fun. Hang out with
your friends, go on a blind date or two, and don’t be afraid to joke around with
your teachers. Take a lot of photographs to chronicle this period of your
life. Participate in school spirit days and wear your pajamas to school. Go
to the prom and dance the night away even if you don’t have a date.
These four years will fly by, and before you know it, it will be time to
throw your graduation cap in the air and celebrate your achievement. Once
you and your friends receive your diplomas, you will look back at your
high school career with nostalgia. Make lots of great memories by joining
activities, taking challenging classes (and a few fun ones, too), and having the
best time of your life. Have fun while earning your high school diploma and
you will remember these years with fondness and joy.
