Acrylic
Fake Nails - Back
Fake nails are ideal for creating a nice
polished appearance. Some people are able
to grow long, beautiful nails. However,
others may have a hard time growing nails
of their own. Those in this situation may
consider wearing fake nails. Fails nails
are usually acrylic. This material is very
durable, thus nails will not easily crack,
chip, or split. Real nails are very fragile,
and many factors contribute to them breaking.
Fake nails are not a new idea. Acrylic
artificial nails have been popular for
over a decade. Prior to acrylic, press-on
fake nails were used to create the illusion
of longer nails. Press-on nails were great
for amusement, but they were not very reliable.
They were attached to the real nail using
adhesive glue; however, they popped off
at the slightest hit or touch. Ladies who
wore press-on nails generally had to carry
a few back-up nails in their purses.
The days of press-on nails are long gone.
Today, women who wear fake nails opt for
tips with a layer of acrylic. Nail technicians
can usually apply fake nails within a half
hour. Some may be hesitant to get fake
nails because of certain risks. Fake
nails require proper care. Individuals
with acrylic nails must return to their
nail technician every two – three
weeks for a fill-in. As the nails grow,
the nail bed around the cuticle becomes
visible. Additional acrylic must be applied
to fill-in this area.
Those who wear fake
nails are at risk for developing nail
fungus. Fungus usually develops when
water settles between the acrylic and
the real nail. This mostly occurs in
individuals who do not properly care
for their fake nails. Ignoring regular
visits to a nail technician will cause
acrylic to separate from the real nail
in certain areas. This is called lifting.
When we bathe or wash our hands, water
can creep into the area that is lifting.
The longer the water sits in this area,
the higher the chances of developing
a fungus. The only way to prevent nail
fungus is by immediately removing fake
nails that are broken, cracked, or lifting.
