Cheech and Chong are one of the most famous comedy duos in history. Their
real names are Richard "Cheech" Marin and Tommy Chong, but most of their fans
simply know them by their stage names. The duo began their trek to stardom in
the 1960s and 1970s, and started off doing stand up routines and improv at
different comedy clubs. Most of the topics they talked about involved music, the
hippie movement, and of course, marijuana use. Their jokes about marijuana are
what have made Cheech and Chong a cult hit with fans young and old.

Movies Cheech and Chong were not just
stage performers, however. They released several movies, most of which had a
pot-related theme. The first film was called Up In Smoke and was
released in 1978. It was an instant hit and did quite well, even in other
countries. This immediate success spurned them on to make many more movies.
Nice Dreams hit the theaters in 1981 and was still carrying on the
marijuana themed tradition, but it was much more sexually charged. By this time,
parents had gotten wind about Cheech and Chong and their films were sparking
controversy, but the team pressed on. They made several more films and continued
their widespread success.
Albums Aside
from their live performances and movies, Cheech and Chong albums were part of
what made the two men great in the eyes of their fans. Basically, the albums
were recordings of live stand up routines, jokes, and skits. The albums were a
huge hit with teenagers in the 1970s and still continue to be a huge part of
what made them great today. Some of the album names include a self-titled debut
from 1971, Big Bambu, Wedding Album, Sleeping Beauty, and Greatest
Hits. One of the most famous albums, Big Bambu, was named after a
brand of rolling papers, and the original record actually had a giant rolling
paper included. Today, it's considered a collector's item.
