April Fools’ Day is the one day when you can play a joke on a friend and have
a chance at being forgiven. The hilarity that takes place on April Fools’ Day
ranges from harmless jokes to well thought out pranks. No matter what level of
humor you want to achieve, April Fools’ Day is a great time to put your joke
planning skills to the test.
There are many Fun April Fools’ Tricks and Pranks to play on your friends and
relatives. Here are ten examples that are easy to pull off.
· While eating a meal with someone in a restaurant, pick up a square of
butter and explain to him that when butter and salt are combined the chemicals
in them produce a hot mixture. Then swirl the salt into the butter, hold your
palm above the butter and remark on the heat waves you feel rising against your
skin. When your meal partner holds his hand above the butter, push his palm down
into it.
· For this prank, you need a manila envelope, shaving foam, and an
unsuspecting friend or sibling. First, squirt the shaving cream into the
envelope; fill it as completely as you can. Next, close the door of the friend
or sibling's room. Then, after placing the opened end of the envelope underneath
the door, smash it flat with your shoe. You'll spray the person's carpet and
furniture with shaving goop, leaving no clues as to how it got there.
· This trick is best played on someone who can be grossed out. First, find a
Styrofoam cup and cut a hole in the base of it. Then, put your finger through
the hole and smear it with ketchup. After putting a lid on the cup, locate the
person you want to prank and say, "Look at what I found." When you remove the
lid, the person will feel queasy and your prank will be a success.
· Grab a spray bottle full of plain water for this next trick. Hide the spray
bottle until your prank victim is facing away from you, and then let out a
dramatic, phony sneeze. As you sneeze, spray the water on the person's arm or
whatever is closest. When the person turns to look at you with an expression of
disgust, reveal the bottle.
· If you have salt and pepper shakers on the table where your family eats,
this is a great trick. First, remove the lids of each. Then pour some salt into
the pepper shaker lid and pepper into the salt shaker lid. Cut two circles of
paper so that they will fit over the tops of the salt and pepper shakers. Next,
carefully replace each lid onto its opposite bottle. Watch as a confused family
member gets pepper out of the salt shaker and salt out of the pepper shaker.
· If you live in a dormitory and share a restroom with the kids in your
hallway, this joke can be played over and over again. Simply take some plastic
wrap and wrap the toilets with it. Caution: This joke will not make you popular
in your dorm hallway.
· The humor in this joke is that it employs your prank victim's imagination.
All you have to do is, weeks before April Fools’ Day, begin to brag about the
great joke that you have planned for this particular person. Be sure to laugh
and snicker a lot about how funny it will be. Then, when April Fools’ Day rolls
around, don't play any joke on the person. The individual will be looking over
his or her shoulder for days.
· This joke is appropriate for a dormitory setting. While your unfortunate
prank victim is in the restroom, sneak into the adjoining stall and yell that
there is a thunderstorm coming. At that moment, dump a plastic cup of cold water
onto the person's head.
· For this simple joke, ask a friend to bite his little finger for half a
minute. When he takes his finger out of his mouth, grasp it with your little
finger and it will give him a stinging sensation.
· Find all of the bars of soap in your dormitory restroom or home and paint
them with a coat of clear nail polish. The next time a dorm mate or family
member showers, they will wonder why the soap has no suds.
A study of The History of April Fools’ Day indicates that the tradition is
connected with the beginning of Spring. As the frozen landscapes of winter give
way to warmth and blooming flowers, people instinctively feel the need to bring
in the new season with joyful laughter. The first evidence of an All Fool's, or
April Fools’ Day, can be traced to sixteenth century France. Before the
Gregorian calendar was introduced, the New Year was celebrated in late March.
Some groups of people insisted on celebrating the New Year on April first,
despite the dictates of the calendar. Or perhaps more realistically, the news of
the change was slow in reaching their particular small towns. Regardless of the
reason, these folks were referred to as, "...fools...” by the general public and
were made fun of. These first fools of April set the tradition in motion, and by
the 1700s, April Fools’ Day pranksters were showing up in English and Scottish
towns. Eventually, the tradition crossed the sea and found its way to
America.
One early April Fools’ Day Tradition in France included labeling any
person who ignored the changed New Year's celebration date as a, "...poisson
d'avril...” The pleasing sound of this French expression hides the fact that the
person is being called a fish of April. This person was not only referred to as
a fish, but suffered through many jokes and pranks as well. In the early days of
April Fool history, an individual in Scotland who ignored the new calendar would
likely be sent on a, "...cuckoo hunt...” This prank that was destined to become
a classic was fun for all the observers who knew that there were no cuckoos to
hunt. The tradition of playing pranks on people who did not observe the
Gregorian calendar has grown into an April Fools’ Day during which any
unsuspecting person may instantly be made into a fool.
More fun jokes to pull on April Fools’ Day include:
· First, poke a hole in one end of an egg in order to empty it of all its
contents. Then, place this egg back into the egg carton. One morning at
breakfast the family cook will be surprised at cracking an egg over a pan, only
to find nothing inside it.
· If you work with a friend at the same company, use your lunch hour to sneak
out to her car. With a tissue, smear petroleum jelly onto the handles of both
her car doors. When she goes out to get into her car she will find it a slippery
task.
· A friend with a fish aquarium will make a great target for this next prank.
If your friend has a small goldfish in his tank, remove it, and put it into a
hidden bowl. Then, replace his fish with a goldfish of a different color or
shape. Your friend will wonder how his fish changed so drastically. At the end
of this joke, the fish will all be safe and your friend will have an addition to
his aquarium.
· This is a hilarious joke to pull on a friend who is always gabbing on his
cell phone. On an April Fools’ Day, visit to his apartment and hide his cell
phone in an odd place that he will never think to look. As he returns to the
room, use your phone to ring his cell phone. Then, watch as he frantically
searches for his phone that you've hidden in an unlikely location.
· A simple joke to play on a spouse or other family member requires the
existence of a dish sprayer that is located on the kitchen sink. Find some clear
tape to fasten down the lever that is pushed to spray the water. The next time a
family member turns on the kitchen faucet he or she will receive a shower at the
sink.
