Danish United Synod Lutheran |
Initially a preparatory
institution; Dana School began awarding associates degrees by the 1910s; in
the 1930s gained accreditation and began awarding bachelors degrees; Dana,
Trinity Seminary, and the United Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church [renamed
the United Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1944] shared the same campus until
1956; Trinity later moved to the campus of Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque,
Iowa. In early 2010, faced with
reduced funding resources and an annual deficit, Dana College, under
President Janet Phillips, looked to sell to a for-profit entity; In May 2010 the Higher Learning Commission
of the North Central Association denied accreditation to the potential new
owners, causing their funding to be withdrawn; the Dana board of trustees
then decided to close the school immediately;
nearby Midland University, also associated with the ELC, absorbed many
of the Dana students, faculty and coaches. |

In 1946, a merger with the
Evangelical Church resulted in control passing to the newly-formed
